Today’s walk: Hambleton Peninsula Circular
This walk was inspired by an edition of Ramblings I heard a while back when Clare Balding and Mark Steel walked around the Hambleton Peninsula. We’d briefly visited Rutland Water 4 years ago and hadn’t really considered heading back there, but the walk sounded lovely.
It was a great walk and is another of my favourites from our trip. As with climbing up Pendle Hill, there’s something satisfying about walking the shoreline of a piece of water, whether all the way around it or just its headland. This was the latter.
We were fortunate we could even walk straight from our hut because there was a footpath cut into the field for guests to follow. We just had to make sure we recognised the gate with the “Private keep out” sign on it to make sure we found it again on the way back! We broke the walk up with a welcome coffee at the village pub.
Later, when we returned to The Finch’s Arms for a tasty dinner, we really felt we’d earned it.
