• Gorgeous light this morning 😍

  • A window parcel tree

I spotted this in Hove on a lunchtime dog walk. It felt really nicely designed and executed. Simple but lovely.

  • Tree loss in the park

My usual weekday morning dog walk takes us through the St Nicholas Rest Garden.

On Monday, we arrived to find a huge branch had split from the main tree. We just walked around it. The dog had a good sniff, and a little wren even hopped along the fallen wood. I was genuinely surprised by how sad I felt, watching this part of the tree lying there.

The regular garden waste team were doing their morning rounds and told us they’d already called in the tree specialists.

By Wednesday, it was all gone. The tree itself was no more.

Now there’s a noticeable gap in the skyline where the canopy used to be, and just two fresh stumps left in the mud. The branch fall must have taken out a second, smaller tree too, judging by the clean cut nearby.

I’m sure someone did a safety check and decided the whole thing was too much of a risk, and it simply had to go. I completely understand, but I wasn’t prepared for the loss. I’d thought they’d just tidy up the branch, not remove the entire tree. It left me feeling pretty sad.
