We’re in the Chilterns for the weekend. Since it’s not an area I know well, I bought a book of walks to give us some ideas. Today’s walk is out of it.

There was a sculling regatta going on in Henley which really added to the experience. We shared the towpath with spectators and, reminiscent of various film training montages, coaches on bikes cycling alongside the boats.

There was some lovely walking, with the autumn colours reflecting in the river. I really enjoyed walking above the impressive weir at Hambleden Lock, hearing the sound of the water flowing beneath my feet.

The loop back took us through the countryside, and we stopped for an early lunch at the Flower Pot hotel, arriving just as the kitchen opened. We sat outside, enjoying the lovely blue skies and red kites circling overhead.
