Today’s walk: Clumber Park
We’d discovered that Sherwood Pines was hosting a multi-distance running event today, so we wanted to find somewhere a bit quieter. A quick check on the National Trust app introduced us to nearby Clumber Park, another place in the wider Sherwood Forest area, so off we went. It turned out to be Race for Life day there, so we still encountered plenty of runners. By the time we arrived, the running was over and people were simply enjoying the park. Another bonus was the EV charging facilities on site. We took advantage of that, always loving a chance to charge the car while exploring.
Clumber Park is huge and very dog-friendly. We had a great time exploring and felt there’s still plenty more to see if we’re nearby again.
One of the most impressive sights was the chapel. The original manor house was taken down long ago, but the chapel remains. It is tall, striking, and still very much the heart of the site. It’s visible from many parts of the park, including as we walked around the lake, serving as a real landmark.
The large lake was a favourite spot for Breezy. She loved being near the water and would happily paddle or swim, especially when there were ducks or other water birds to watch. It was a perfect way to keep her cool on another hot day.
We walked around much of the lake giving Breezy opportunity to paddle and swim, and admired the chapel in the distance. She was especially interested when ducks or other water birds appeared giving her something to try and interact with. It was another warm day, so being close to water helped keep her cool.
We found a great dog-friendly cafe on site amusingly called Central Bark. Dogs are welcome both inside and out, and they sell treats too. We stopped there before heading home, wanting to show our support for the National Trust’s efforts to become more dog-friendly over the past few years.
Just before we left, we spotted a wildflower meadow tucked between a few buildings. It wasn’t large, but it stood out as being a perfect slice of summer.
Despite being busy and popular, especially with the Race for Life event adding to the crowds, it never felt overwhelming. There were plenty of quieter woodland areas where we had space to ourselves. I’d definitely visit again if we were nearby.
