Today’s walk: Chequers and Coombe Hill
This was the walk we had originally planned for yesterday, but we gave it a second shot today! Even though we got moving early, the main car park was already full (perhaps all the keen New Year’s Day joggers had something to do with that). Luckily, we found a spot to abandon the car a little way down the road which turned out to be on the walking route.
At the top of Coombe Hill, the wind was sharp and bitter. I feared the worst for my fingers! But as we kept going and built up some warmth, it became manageable.
It was interesting getting so close to Chequers. The public footpath crosses the estate, and we got a clear view of the house and the surrounding fields.
We have no idea if any dignitaries were in residence while we were passing, but we assumed there were several surveillance cameras operating, so we made sure to give a little wave.
It was a good walk, and I’m very glad we didn’t give up on trying it. A perfect way to start the new year!
