Book review: The Outdoors Fix: Stories to inspire you to make the outdoors a bigger part of your life by Liv Bolton
Rating: 5 out of 5
I picked up this book while I was in the bookshop in Crickhowell last summer. I grabbed it off the shelf because it sounded like my kind of thing - making the outdoors a bigger part of my life. I flicked through and found a story about Frit Tam - someone I know - and so bought a copy then and there. It sat on my shelf for a while until I’d worked through a couple of other books I class as episodic (can be read a chapter at a time without losing anything). I hadn’t heard of the podcast before picking up the book but am now a subscriber to that and have enjoyed some additional stories.
As with any book like this, there are some stories that make me want to get outside, and others that I’d rather enjoy from the comfort of my armchair. The community-builders and after-work adventure seekers sections resonated with me most, likely because they feel more achievable in my own life. I was particularly inspired by the stories of Debbie North, Zahrah Mahmood, and Oge Ejizu, whose experiences challenge stereotypes about who can access and enjoy nature.
A nice bit of escapism that has been enjoyable to pick up and read a chapter of every three or four days.
