What a remarkable story from a remarkable chap. It’s a short read, and is currently 99p for the kindle version so there is no reason not to invest in this tale of appreciation, gratitude, and the idea of focussing on what we can do, not what we can’t.

Highlighted passaages:

Facing the darkness by letting my emotions take me there was hard but cathartic,

when it comes down to it, we only really have each other in life.

To extend friendship, to sustain others during dark times, is the very best of human nature.

St Francis of Assisi – ‘Start by doing what’s necessary, then do what’s possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible’

Writing a card to someone who is unwell is not exactly beyond the limits of most people but to receive those words moved me every single time.

I believe that one of the most mood-enhancing feelings in life is to be grateful for even the smallest of things

we would become stronger if we focused on the things we were able to do, not the things we couldn’t.

When people bear you in mind, the obstacles become easier to face.

It’s amazing what pushing yourself in areas outside your comfort zone can do.

that’s not what being grateful is about. It’s not about comparing what I don’t have to what you do have. That’s far too reductive in my opinion. Being grateful is about looking around, opening our eyes to all the little things that we might take for granted.

The past has happened and cannot be changed; it can only be accepted. Life is much simpler and much happier when you always look at what you can do, not what you can’t do.
