Book review: The Governor: My Life Inside Britain’s Most Notorious Jails by Vanessa Frake
Rating: 4 out of 5
I picked up this up on a whim from my Prime Reading library. I read a book from a prisoner’s point of view earlier this year (I think), and this seemed like the perfect companion, allowing me to bring some of that experience to the fore. It was.
This book offers a fascinating look at a prison governor’s two decades at Holloway and Wormwood Scrubs. It was especially interesting to learn how mobile phones changed the prison environment and to see the impact they have.
After a career that sounds incredibly challenging, I was so pleased to learn that she’s found a new passion for baking and is doing so well.
