Rating: 4 out of 5

This was the last of three calendar-synced books I read with monthly chapters. This one isn’t tied to the specific year, which gave me a little more flexibility than the almanac. Because of that, it usually ended up being the final book I picked up each month.

I’ve been reading Miles Richardson’s blog for a few years now, so it was an easy decision to pick up and read his book as well. I find the whole concept of nature connectedness fascinating, and this book has some really nice activities and ideas to help with that.

Inspired by the book, I started a nature photo album mid-year. All the photos are taken from the same spot on the first of the month, or as close as I can make it. I found this to be a wonderfully simple way of watching the seasons change.

A little over a year ago, inspired by one of Miles’s blog posts, I also started keeping a note of one to three things I’ve seen in nature every day. It’s a fascinating collection of observations, and it’s something I will definitely continue doing.

This book was definitely worth the read, and I settled on a 4/5 rating. I did enjoy it, but perhaps it wasn’t as immediately engaging as some other books I’ve read this year. Still, I was very pleased to see the large collection of references in the bibliography.
