Sweet potato dog treats
Breezy has had a bit of an upset stomach. Almost certainly not helped by the number of treats we get through at Dog School. After a quick chat with a vet, we simplified her diet - pasta and turkey mince in smaller meals. On the list of approved foods was sweet potato. I was pretty sure I’d seen some treats in our local pet store that were just sweet potatoes so headed there to find them, while also dropping by the supermarket to buy turkey mince and cottage cheese (also on the approved food list). I did a quick search online and found some recipes for making sweet potato treats, and gave it a try. The first batch wasn’t brilliant (wrong temperature), but the second, and third have been a success.
This batch used 2 sweet potatoes cut into 1 to 2 cm cubes. The fan oven was on at 110 degrees C, and I baked them for 2 hours and 10 minutes. As were heading out when they finished, they stayed in the oven while it cooled down, which continued to help them bake.
Breezy likes them and seems happy to take them as a reward. Which was very handy for Thursday evening’s dog school training.
