Action for Happiness produce a themed monthly calendar to help bring happiness into lives. This month the subject is self-care. Self-care is something I have focussed on as part of my intentions over the past year or so. I feel that it is important because, especially since realising that I’d burned out, I recognise that I only have so much energy to draw on. There are activities that I do that use up energy. And there are activities that I do that generate energy. I need to get that balance right. And prioritising that balance is part of my self-care. As the calendar says “You can’t pour from an empty cup”

The items on the calendar aren’t unachievable. Some of them make me feel uncomfortable. But that’s ok. And potentially all the more reason to do them for at least that one day. Maybe I’ll gain some new habits, or some new strategies. Maybe not, but I’ll be none the worse for trying.
