I thought I’d been to a summer exhibition before, but I think acutally I’d been to the Royal Academy for a different exhibition. I was not prepared for the feeling of overwhelm at realising that there were over 1700 exhibits across 13 rooms.

I enjoyed the items with textures

especially the embroidered portrait

and was amused by the collection of pencils used by the artist

and a book about dogs with a little tableau of sheep in it

And I took a few moments to enjoy the features of the gallery spaces themselves
