I’m catching up on October’s The Simple Things magazine this morning. I’ve just read an article about parish kneelers - the decorated hassocks for kneeling on in church. Not a subject I’ve thought about in many years.

What came to mind for me was a memory of my Mum making one in the early 80s to celebrate the St Nicholas, Hull branch of the Mothers’ Union’s diamond anniversary. I scampered upstairs, opened some of the family photo albums, and found a photo of her standing next to the altar, holding her kneeler 😍

There is a Parish Kneelers website which holds examples, and instructions. Sadly, no submission for my Mum’s kneeler, but I’m super pleased to have found a photo of her with it.
