Once more I find myself having reached the end of my notebook, and so what follows are my further refinements to the body lotion bars. Some successful, one failure.

Bar #5

  • 40g raw organic unrefined cocoa butter
  • 10g refined mango butter
  • 5g raw organic unrefined shea butter
  • 1g coconut oil

My first attempt combining mango butter, and shea butter. This was a success and turned out to be a good consistency.

Bar #6

  • 35g raw organic unrefined cocoa butter
  • 10g refined mango butter
  • 5g raw organic unrefined shea butter
  • 1 tbsp sunflower oil

I swapped sunflower oil having received this book for my birthday and having read about the properties of the various oils, and knowing that I had sunflower oil in my kitchen cupboard. 1 tbsp sunflower oil was far too much for this. The 1tbsp sunflower oil worked out to be about 12g - so it added a lot more oil to the mixture. The finished bar turned out way too oily and I threw it away after using it a few times.

Bar #7

  • 13g raw organic unrefined cocoa butter
  • 20g refined mango butter
  • 10g raw organic unrefined shea butter
  • 1g sunflower oil

This was a bar made up of the ends of my supplies. I’d ordered fresh supplies from The Soapery and so decided I’d just put what was left into a bar and see what happened. It turned out not too bad - a bit too soft - but it was useable, which was a step in the right direction after bar #6.

I’m still enjoying the experimentation process, and, armed with my new book, I’ve ordered some new oils to try out.
