Book review: Midnight Riot (Rivers of London #1) by Ben Aaronovitch
Rating: 3 out of 5
Easy to read, which is exactly what I was after however it didn’t hold my attention as well as the previous book I read. Fun. Silly. Entertaining. But easy to put down and wander off from.
Highlighted passages:
Martin gave the body the ‘London once-over’ - a quick glance to determine whether this was a drunk, a crazy or a human being in distress. The fact that it was entirely possible for someone to be all three simultaneously is why good-Samaritanism in London is considered an extreme sport
Contrary to television, there’s an absolute limit to how good a closeup you can extrapolate from an old-fashioned bit of video tape. It doesn’t matter if it’s digital - if the information isn’t there, it isn’t there.
No one can fake a statement the way a policeman can.
‘A great deal of it was technical, groundwater overdrafts, aquifer delay cycles and aggregate catchment-area coefficients. Apparently all these will affect how much water goes down the river this summer.’
I’ve got nothing against using cocoa butter, it’s just that you end up smelling like a giant Mars Bar for the rest of the day.
