Manchester (and Bury): Paying my respects
We unintentionally came across three statues (or an information board instead of a statue in Victoria Wood’s case because a taxi had knocked into her!?!) for people of significance. First up, as we approached our apartment from the station, we walked (semi-deliberately) through Sackville Gardens to “meet” Alan Turing.
Next up, while visiting nearby Bury with a friend who grew up there, we stumbled across the info board for Victoria Wood. I was disappointed not to see her statue, but even so, it was good to remember her comedy greatness.
On our first afternoon, as we got on a tram from St Peter’s Square, I caught a glimpse of what looked to me like Emmeline Pankhurst. This was confirmed to be the case by our friend and tour guide, so after dinner on Saturday evening, I made the group walk a diversion to go and meet her as well.
