Rating: 5 out of 5

This has been on my to-read list for a year or so, it was one of the books I added as a result of an intention to broaden my reading, and to encompass worlds that I hope never to live within. This is beautifully told. I got a real feeling of the struggles that Ebo encountered on his journey, and the reasons for him, and his fellow travellers, making such a difficult journey. Heartbreaking.

The graphic novel format is very effective for this. I feel that it strips the story back to a certain rawness, a reducing to key points, which might be missed in another format.

Made me think. Made me cry. Made me grateful.
