“You have to know how to be sad to know how to be happy and if you know both of those things you’ll know how to be brave”

I enjoyed this book and it definitely benefited from a prolonged read rather than a pick it up and put it down read. It wasn’t until I finished it that I realised that the historical part of the book was based in fact. And it wasn’t until a few pages in that I realised that it was set in the city of my birth, my childhood and my family, Hull. It’s always a pleasure to read about the places I recognise and remember.

I didn’t love the characters, they didn’t seem to be fully present, but that may be part of the story.
