My 88th GoodGym task took place at Moulescoomb Primary School, a school on the edge of Brighton with incredible outdoor grounds. The school boasts a replica Iron Age Roundhouse, a medieval house, an orchard, a vegetable garden, and I’ve even heard there’s a forest garden hidden somewhere! These green spaces are important, especially since the school faces various academic and societal challenges. The outdoor environment provides a valuable resource for both the pupils and the teachers.

The task

We were there the day before the children returned to school, and I spent much of the evening clearing bindweed, hoping to make the pumpkins easier for the children to spot.

And a little birdy friend was watching me as I worked.

The difference

As with most GoodGym tasks, we left knowing we’d made a meaningful difference. Though we’re only there for 45 minutes, it’s amazing what 10 pairs of hands working together can accomplish. It’s rewarding to know that when the children return, they’ll find their garden spaces a little more inviting and accessible.
