Rating: 4 out of 5

I almost gave up on this, but I read a few reviews from which I gleaned that for some people there are some heart-skippingly-wonderful pieces among other bits that aren’t all that. And that gave me the drive to persist. And I’m glad I did. I did find a couple of beautiful pieces that I’m glad that I have read. For me the piece about the railways, and the final piece were beautiful. And I really liked some of the observations about time, and it’s fluxing qualities.

Highlighted passages:

What we mourn for the dead is the loss of their hopes

The deeper the experience of the moment, the greater the accumulation of experience. This is why the moment is lived as longer.

The lived duree is not a question of length but of depth or destiny

With you I can imagine a place where to be phosphate of calcium is enough
