For Christmas 2018 (yes, it took me a while) a friend bought me a Penguin needle felting kit. I thought it looked cute and I intended to make it, but popped it onto the shelves in the spare room for a while. That while turned out to be almost a year. As Christmas rolled around again, I decided it was time to give them a go.

I’ve never done any needle felting before, so I thought I’d follow the included instructions. They suggested starting with the large penguin. So that’s what I did. And I followed their guidance with the design for this penguin as well. The only thing I had to go and buy was some glue (to stick on the beak and wings). Everything else was included.

I was quite pleased with how it turned out but decided that for my middle penguin I’d style the face a little differently.

When I got around to doing the smallest penguin, I decided that I’d have a go at felting the wings rather than using the provided ones. And I loved how it came out.

This really is a tiny penguin, here it is with a 50p piece for scale.

I liked these felted wings so much so that I decided to change the middle penguin’s wings as well. So there was a little bit of surgery before looking like this.

Today, on penguin awareness day I thought I’d share the photos of my newly created penguin trio. They’re so cute, and I’m really pleased with them. I would definitely have a go at needle felting again.
