I learned of this book when the author, Lawrence Illsley, appeared as part of a panel at the Good Grief Festival talking about grief and nature (https://goodgrieffest.com/facilitators/lawrence-illsley/)

I read these poems over the course of a couple of hours one Sunday. What surprised me was the mixture of scientific, and nature knowledge, interspersed with deep outpourings of grief and the odd reference to other poems. All expressed in accessible language. The second tree in the collection is in the city I call home and the local history included was a delightful surprise to come across.

Clever, beautiful, moving.
