Snap Decision

I spotted a really interesting article in yesterday's Guardian Work section, Snap Decision. It is about Alan Kirwin, a one time computing professional, who quit his day job and went on to become a successful wedding photographer with an interesting take on the wedding format - following a couple through from engagement, hen and stag parties, the wedding itself and even onto the honeymoon.

Light and Dark

Light and Dark

I just loved the way that the light came into the sun room during our recent visit to La Casa Del Olivar in Spain. Part of a series of black and white images taken at the Casa.

Taken in colour at ISO 200, f6.3 for 1/60th of a second and then converted to black and white using my newly aquired full copy of Lightroom.

Lightroom as default photo application

My copy of Lightroom arrived today, so I've installed it and its all happy and lovely except I couldn't work out how to get it to be the default image application when I plug either the camera or a card reader in. As usual with all things Mac, Richard came to the rescue and found a clue in the iPhoto help. So, I simply opened Image Capture, selected Preferences and set the "When a camera is connected open in" option to be Adobe Lightroom. I've just plugged the camera in to check and its all working well.

Moo Card Holder

From the back, top off
Originally uploaded by Jane Dallaway.

After reading one of the flickr: MOO MiniCards group discussions on Moo card tins I discovered, thanks to SgtRock333 the "Aluminium Portable Ashtray" from Muji to use as a moo card holder. It works really well, and should protect them whilst meaning I don't have to carry around the entire box.

Kit Bag: G3

The Camera

My main camera at the moment is a Canon G3. I've had it for 4 years now, and I still love it. We have produced some really pleasing images between us. I've bought a lot of additions for it over the years, including a spare battery (although to be fair the G3 battery has always been excellent).

The Accessories

I have 2 52mm lensmate lens adapters. I have a 52mm lenscap and a set of different filters.

The filters I have are:
  • a 52mm Circular Polariser
  • a 52mm 1A filter
  • a 52mm diffuser
  • a ND4 Neutral Density filter
  • a 52mm cross filter
  • a set of close up filters (+4, +2, +1)

I have 2 additional lenses:
  • a Kenko 2.0x Teleconverter (KNT-20)
  • a Raynox 0.72x Wide Angle lens (DCR-720)

The Case

I store my camera in a LowePro case, which has enough space for the camera, a remote control and a spare card. I've had the case as long as I've had the camera, and it has lasted very well.

Moo Cards have arrived

CRW_3753.jpg

I'm impressed, I ordered my Moo Cards on Tuesday, and they arrived yesterday. Impressive customer service. I'm really pleased with the quality of them all as well, and look forward to great reactions when I hand them out.

Lightroom

I've done it, I've just ordered Lightroom. It should dispatch next Friday. I have no idea why it isn't available already as my beta has now expired and I'm without Lightroom for 10 days. Aagghh!
