RSS Feeds
I make a lot of use of
google reader, from my laptop at home, at work and on the move using the
mobile version. One thing I've noticed which I find quite frustrating is the amount of people who choose not to feed the full content of their blog, but instead only offer the first 255 characters or so. I rarely follow the link to find out more and so their blog isn't fully digested and so the argument that RSS is used as a hook into the content on the site just doesn't work for me.
To set a blogger site to have a feed of full blogs the key field is "Allow Blog Feeds" which should be set to "Full"

Mobile Google Reader
Since getting my Nokia 6110 Navigator, I've subscribed to
vodafone's internet package. I use
Google Reader as my rss reader, and am making use of the
mobile version to keep on top of my feeds. This has changed the way I use google reader.
When I'm using a desktop or laptop I'll skim read an item, and open any interesting links in another tab and go and take a look at the linked content. I then get caught in a link opening hell and don't get through many of my original RSS items.
On the mobile I've found myself using the starring functionality to indicate that there is a link I'd like to follow later. This means that when I do get some time on a desktop/laptop I've got a subset of items to follow up on allowing me to concentrate on them rather than skimming through. I've also noticed that I am reading many of the items more thoroughly, probably because there is less "link opening" going on and so less distraction.

Brighton Bloggers aggregated RSS
I've just added a
new section to
Brighton Bloggers to take the last 30 or so blogs from the
aggregated RSS feed and display them on the site. Hopefully, for those who don't want to read all the posts via RSS they can still get a flavour of what is on offer from
participants.
It is written in PHP and is a customised version of the
PHP RSS Reader originally written by
Richard James Kendall. The script was really easy to customise and I'm really pleased with how it looks. I could do with a better word than Aggregated though, so if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Life stream
After reading
Jeremy's blog post on life streaming in November I've been thinking of doing a similar thing. I experimented using
SuprGlu but found the results slow and unreliable - it seems to take quite a while for various posts to get added to the history. So now, with the help of
Jeremy's more recent post, and
Grant's post I've managed to
aggregate my
Jane's technical stuff posts, my
Jane's photographic stuff posts, my posts to
Jane and Richard's yak and natter,
Brighton Bloggers posts,
Twitter,
del.icio.us and
flickr. Initially I had a few problems with getting the Twitter feed to work, until I remembered that I'd restricted updates. Once I'd removed that restriction, it all fed together nicely and I have a nice
RSS feed of my posts across the various mediums.
